POOL IS NOW OPEN!
Posted on Jul 26, 2010 Comments (0)
Today the spring on the pool gate was repaired. Last weekend, someone using the pool pushed the gate open way too far...far enough to break the spring that pushes the door closed after opening it. Health regulations state that a community pool without a lifeguard has to have a fully operating gate that closes itself and can only be accessed with a pool card access. Pool had to be closed until spring was repaired.
The repair used the old spring...bolting it down to make the gate work. The broken spring could not be rewelded only bolted. A new spring will have to be ordered then welded to the gate for a more permanent fix...we will do this after the pool closes for the season. Please consider this a fix "to get us through this summer season".
What this means is that pool users cannot push the pool gate open too far nor prop it open. If the pool gate is pushed open too far like what happened last weekend, it will easily break the spring again...because it was bolted and not welded. If that happens, the pool will have to be closed again until we order a new spring and weld it onto the gate...which could be weeks. SO, PLEASE DO NOT PUSH THE GATE OPEN TOO FAR NOR PROP IT OPEN.
Thank you so much...I know that you all will help on this one.

Psst...Have You Noticed...Hampshire Lake Smells!
Posted on Jul 20, 2010 Comments (0)
Several residents have complained that the water in Hampshire Lake is stagnant and smells. Dina Rancourt, our property manager, is looking into this issue. She says that, according to Jones Fish Hatchery of Cincinnati, this is happening to several ponds in this area.
The smell is coming from “turnover.” It is when a smaller pond that does not have much movement in water flow, gets a large amount of rain water in a short period (which has happened 2x this season). It causes the water on the bottom of the pond to move to the top of the pond. When this occurs there a change in the level of oxygen in the water, which causes a very foul, sulfur smell and it can also kill the fish.
Jones said that this occurence happens a lot in old farm ponds. Since Hamphire Lake was supposedly a very old farm pond that was enlarged when the community was built, it is understandable why this happened.
Here is the good news...Jones said the the smell will only last about 4 days and then it will subside. The Board is just starting to look into ways to keep the water oxygenated. More to come on this issue.
